10 Oct Eight weeks and counting down the days… #wereldveroveraar
Today, on the beautiful morning of October 10th 2011, the final countdown has begun! We have doubled the excitement as I am also nominated by the Dutch Financial Times as one of their 10 world conquerors (#wereldveroveraars in Dutch). In eight weeks we will leave Amsterdam and exchange it for… the world. This is the start of an amazing and life changing journey. Want to read about my adventures in healthcare in the newspaper and online as well? You can vote here to make me a #wereldveroveraar.
We have been counting down for over a year, talking about our dreams in life, our goals, the life we dream to live together, the destinations, the cities to live in, the people to work with, the people to meet, the contribution we can make to all kinds of fields and so many other things that come around when you exchange your life for the unknown.
We have made the choice to go and try new things, discover talents we never knew we had, meet people we never thought we would meet and explore new cultures and lands we have never seen before. And doing all of this while making a difference in other peoples’ lives with our expertise and drive. We have made the scary choice to explore where this journey will take us when we don’t try to control it.
Of all places in the world we could go to, we have chosen to start our journey in amazing Mexico. For me, it will feel like coming home. Those who have known me longer, will understand why. It has been exactly 10 years since I lived and worked in Mexico. Since the day I flew back home, I made myself a promise I would be back for an even longer period and experience this amazing land, culture and their people again. I have traveled extensively in Asia and South America ever since, but it has never changed my love for Mexico. I will be squeezed against the airplane window upon arrival in Mexico City: what a sight!
The coming eight weeks we will make you a part of this great adventure as much as we can, by sharing all preparations we make before we leave and the challenges that we face as well. Leaving everything behind to go explore the world, is one of the scariest and beautiful things I have ever done. I am looking forward to your comments and questions you might have because I believe that life becomes more beautiful and richer if you can share it with others.
